Meeting with Kenya Coast MICE Stakeholders
KNCB held its first in-person stakeholder forum in Mombasa on the 23rd November 2020 at the PrideInn Paradise Convention Center.
The bureau used the meeting to engage participants through presentations and discussions facilitated by Mr. Rick Taylor, CEO of The Business Tourism Company and KNCB’s consultant. “The Kenya Coast is market-ready for MICE; what is needed is a focus on management, development, packaging and marketing of what the region has to offer, whilst noting the need for a private sector framework to establish criteria and build credentials in the MICE sector under an ‘umbrella’ MICE association”, Mr Taylor said.
Kenya Tourism Federation’s Chairman Mr. Mohamed Hersi together with the Mombasa County Government CEC for Trade, Tourism and Investment Hon. Fawz Rashid Ali (OGW) joined stakeholders in validating the strategy and called on strategic partnerships during its implementation.
This was echoed by Ms. Tasneem Adamji, who chaired the Task-force on the operationalization of the National Convention Bureau in 2016. She noted that “Kenya was on the right path to host major MICE events due to its vast investments in the sector. Alignment and coordination by the KNCB has been a glaring gap hence the Task Force’s recommendation on establishment of the bureau”.
